Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Mike Sansone is at it again!  You cannot slow this guy down…

If there is something great in the world, it could possibly stem from this guy.  Mike is a great guy with his focus on what matters in life.  He is the most unselfish person that I know.

Check out the new venture… Iowa Biz Events  - Here is what Mike’s statement about the site is:

“There are so many business events going on in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, the Quad Cities…it’s hard to keep up. We’re going to try, though. We’ll soon be adding a calendar of events so you can keep up with us…”  Site listings may include:

  • Interviews with Speakers, Authors and Event Planners
  • Events of Iowa Business leaders speaking elsewhere
  • Networking Events
  • How to Network
  • Trade Shows
  • Book Signings

    The Delegation Trap

    Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I engaged Tom Foster over at Management Skills Blog where he writes about The Delegation Trap.  He gives a story that basically tells the story of how delegation could, and should work.

In Tom’s story, a partial list was generated for the basis of delegating a task or project to the right person.  The list answers the question “…what’s the major benefit(s) for the person you would delegate this to?”…  The list includes:

    • A sense of accomplishment.
    • Feeling a greater part of the team.
    • Feeling more valuable to the team.
    • A sense of contribution.

Most of our delegation emits from trying to save more of our own time, rather than thinking of the most suitable cause and situation for delegating.

Read Tom’s post and gain some delegation leverage!

    New Site Design

    OK, new Blog Design… Thoughts?

Help - I broke my Blog! (fixed)

    Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

It’s fixed.  I changed the design, and now everything is getting back to the way that I want it.  Maybe a new masthead is needed though!

Not sure what happened here, but now my navigation sits UNDER the posts…  I attempted to use a new Blog posting tool, maybe that did it?

Can anyone see what I did wrong here.  I realize that it is more than likely some formatting issue.  I have customized this theme, so I hate to reinstall it and start over.  Any help would be GREAT!

    July 4th Celebration

Lake Ahquabi Campsite_small This weekends plans include: CAMPING - We will be camping at the exquisite Lake Ahquabi. We plan on entertaining our fellow campers, friends, family; and the poor souls that pitch next to us…

I am looking forward to this weekend, as I need to relax after this last two months of becoming acclimated at the new company, and suffering a waterfall of vehicle issues. What are your plans? Have you started planning? Hmm… As a Project Manager, you should have had the Intiation completed by June 15th, and the Execution plan should be under way!

West Des Moines adopts Blog to reach public

    Monday, June 26th, 2006

    (Story from Des Moines Register.com)

“…West Des Moines residents who want the inside scoop on what’s happening with city affairs can turn to the Internet and a blog posted several times a month by City Manager Jeff Pomeranz…”

This is great!  Another toast to an Iowa Blog.  Mike Sansone (of course) shows up in this story too.  Where there’s a blog, there’s a Sansone.

The City of West Des Moines is promoting their blog in a great way… the newspaper.  The blog, http://wdmblog.wdm-ia.com is run by the West Des Moines City Manager, Jeff Pomeranz.  The blog has actually been active since about February of 2006, but is now starting to get some traffic and recognition.  As noted above, Mike Sansone already had a taste of this Iowa Blog, and I am sure that he may have even had something to do with it’s appeal.

    Reciprocity in Numbers (Top 10)

    Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Darren Rowse at ProBlogger.net recently posted about his Top 10 Sources of Traffic and Giving Thanks

Great point Darren…[o] Although this particular blog has only been online a short while, I have actually been blogging since 2003. I started with Degrees of Project Management, and I had developed several dedicated readers, commenters, and reciprocal linkers. Those same readers/linkers followed me to my other blog writing in Iowa Business 101, ReciprocityBlog, List of Lists, and other small blogs.

I have actually grown into utilizing this one universal blog now, and I feel quite comfortable, and compelled, to stay with this one. I can’t post in eight locations at once, and still manage projects in a healthy fashion. So, here are my top kudos, thanks you, and greatful unworthiness to the cream of the crop that sends traffic my way (notice that most links still say Degrees of Project Management) : … : (in no particular order)

    1. (Brian Kennemer) projectified
    2. (Esther Derby) Process Improvement
    3. (Hal Macomber) Reforming Project Management
    4. (Johanna Rothman) Hiring Technical People
    5. (Johanna Rothman) Managing Product Development
    6. (Laurent Bossavit) Incipient(thoughts)
    7. Clarke Ching’s professional weblog
    8. Converstations
    9. Frank Patrick’s Focused Performance
    10. IowaBlogs.net

Of course there is Darren’s linking from ProBlogger.
Check out all the links coming from his site to mine:

Thank you to all that read this blog, subscribe to the feed, and link in. Without these sorts of reciprocity, our blogs would be meaningless…

    Bloglines, my friend

    Friday, June 23rd, 2006

There is a conversation going on regarding some folks that are unhappy with Bloglines.  I would have to honestly say that I am COMPLETELY happy, and pleased to use Bloglines.  I aggregate ALL of my feeds through them, although I do not publicize them all (i.e. all of my ‘vanity’ searches that Mike Sansone taught me how to setup).  I also pull this Blogs blogroll from Bloglines automatically.  Everytime I subscribe to another feed in Bloglines, it automatically adds that link to my site.  I love it.

Here is part of what I said on Converstations regarding Bloglines

[…] I utilize Blogines Bloglines in the office, at home, and on my laptop, as well as with my site to maintain my favorite links, etc. which I have been completely happy with, despite occasionally flaws.

Would you like to see del.icio.us as an installed app, or technorati?  If you use multiple computers, the answer would be NO.

… Remember when TypePad was going slower than a slug? ( read: http://www.sixapart.com/about/corner/2005/10/the_ups_downs_o.html ) […]
